O2 plans UK IPTV service next year

 You may already have Sky+, Virgin Media's V+ box or even BT Vision, but it's a market that mobile phone operator O2 seems intent on joining as it announced plans to launch an IPTV service to go head to head with these companies as well as rival offerings from Orange and Tiscali.

Has Sky’s Anytime been bitten by another radioactive spider? Already spinning its top web powers by letting Sky customers download content online, it’s added a few more superhero skills to its repertoire.
 
Could Freeview get more channels?

 The great thing about Freeview is that once you've paid your telly licence, there are a lot of channels that you don't need to pay extra to get. But the trouble is that the selection is limited compared to offerings from Sky or Virgin. But that could all change as Ofcom has new proposals that could increase the number of channels available on digital terrestrial television and perhaps even herald that proper start of high-defition television without a satellite or cable in sight.
 
BBC gets HDTV green light

You don't get anything for free these days, not even Freeview television. But BT is looking to cut the cost of getting on the scene because the BT Vision service is now available to self-install, cutting out the middle man.

Anyone who has witnessed the bun fight that is American television advertising will be aware of the constant "our company is better than their company" comparisons. We don't go in for that much over here in Blighty, so when we do it's worth getting it right. A lesson satellite broadcaster Sky needs to learn, it seems...

Virgin Media V+ boxHas BSkyB finally buried the hatchet with Virgin Media and reinstated its basic channels to 3.3m subscribers? Sadly not. But if you happen to be a Newtel, Smallworld or Wightcable customer, things are looking good...
