Pinnacle has obviously decided that Apple Mac users need square eyes as much as PC users do, as it launches a couple of ultra-portable TV tuners for Mac. It’s the first time that Pinnacle Systems, which is the consumer division of Avid Technology , has dipped its toe into the Mac market.
“Macs are famous for their eye-catching design and the cool features within the OS,” said Pinnacle Systems general manager and Avid vice president Jeff Hastings.
“Now Mac users can use Pinnacle products to further extend the capabilities of their computers and transform them into personal TVs and video recorders.”
The DVB-T Stick allows European users to watch, timeshift and record their favourite digital TV and DVB-T radio programs.
The Pinnacle TV for Mac Hybrid Stick delivers the same functionalities as the DVB-T Stick, but also adds analogue TV reception and acts as a video capture device.
Both sticks plug directly into the Mac’s USB 2.0 port and come with a remote control so users can sit back and enjoy the show.
The sticks include a standard antenna input or use their own mini antenna when there is no external TV antenna.
The hardware is bundled with Elgato ’s EyeTV Lite viewing and recording software.
The personal video recorder function saves recordings on the Mac’s hard drive in DVD-quality MPEG-2 format and video can also be imported from external sources such as camcorders using the included A/V adapter cable.
Those wanting to turn their Google box into a gogglebox only have to wait until the end of March, when the DVB-T Stick will be retailing at £59.99 and shopkeepers will be asking you for £89.99 to take the Mac Hybrid Stick home.
