Amazon is planning to offer independent filmmakers a leg up onto high definition DVD by selling 1,000 titles. The 1,000 HD DVD Indies Project will distribute the high-def films using Amazon’s CustomFlix DVD-on-demand service.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and his panel of musical theatre experts - that's Broadway and West End leading lady Denise Van Outen, celebrated theatre producer Bill Kenwright, The Producers star John Barrowman and outspoken vocal coach Zoe Tyler - have selected their 12 Josephs to perform in the live finals of Any Dream Will Do on BBC One. Revealed last night, the full list of finalists looks like an oversized boy band.

Downing Street has appointed Sir Michael Lyons as chairman of the BBC Trust, the BBC's new governing body, with effect from 1 May 2007. "It is a great privilege to be appointed chairman of the BBC Trust,” the former councillor and council chief executive said.

Bond fans can rest assured that the British future of the franchise is safe in Pinewood’s hands following the reopening of a soundstage that had been closed by fire. The 007 Stage was one of the largest in the world at 45,000 square feet. However, the newly-built stage has a usable area of just over 59,000 square feet using the same building space, thanks to improved structural design.

As Any Dream Will Do kicks off on BBC One, it’s worth looking back at comments made by the Life On Mars cast during our Series 2 set visit. Back then How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? was on our screens and actors Phil Glenister and Dean Andrews laid into it like coppers on a nonce.
