Nintendo has cleverly added its legacy racing game Excitebike to the classic-game download service for the Wii console. Why cleverly, you ask? Because the Wii title Excite Truck also launches today and gamers will be able to see how the modern game has evolved from the Nintendo Entertainment System original.
"Launching on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, Excitebike is a fast paced racer," said a Nintendo spokesperson. "It was one of the first titles to allow players to adjust the pitch of their bike after a jump to correctly land, as well as being one of the first ever racing games with a track builder. As well as the release of Excitebike, three other new titles will also be available to download and buy from the Wii Virtual Console – bringing the number of downloadable classic games to 53. They include: world-hopping Kirby’s Adventure; side-scrolling shooter R-Type III: Third Lightning from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System; and New Adventure Island, which was originally created for the PC Engine. Excitebike and Kirby’s Adventure will set you back 500 Wii Points each, New Adventure Island sells for 600 Wii Points and R-Type III: Third Lightning costs the most at 800 Points. Gamers can buy 2,000 Wii points for £14 by logging on to the Wii Shop Channel using their consoles. |
