As reported on Absolute Gadget, hoards of fans lined up to get their mitts on World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade in January. Now in just one month the expansion pack has managed to punt 3.5m units. The pack managed to sell 2.4m units in the first twenty four hours alone. This is more than any other PC game in history has sold within an entire first month of availability.

More than 1.9 million packs were sold in regions that play on North American realms, including more than 100,000 copies in Australasia, and nearly 1.6 million in Europe.

"We're thrilled about the overwhelming response that we've received for Burning Crusade,"said Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard Entertainment. "We have worked hard to build upon nearly every aspect of World of Warcraft with this expansion, and it's gratifying to see that players and reviewers are enjoying the new content."

According to figures from the company Amazon.com reported that it received more preorders for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade than for any other PC or console game ever, and Wal-Mart also recorded similar record-breaking numbers for Burning Crusade.

According to Gary Severson, senior vice president and general manager at Wal-Mart, "Not only was The Burning Crusade the top-selling item in our electronics department the day it released; it had the best day-one sales of any PC-game launch in our company's history."

Tricia Brennan, Commercial Director of the GAME Group said The Burning Crusade saw record-breaking first-week sales at GAME and sales have been continuously strong since then. "World of Warcraft has proved such a success thanks to its strong player following and superb gameplay, and we anticipate more people joining this fast-growing community throughout the year," she said.

A new patch for the game, v2.0.10, which fixes problems with numerous class skills and talents introduced by the expansion pack has also been released.  The expansion pack added added two new races, a new profession, flying mounts, plus scores of new equipment and quests as well as increasing the level cap to 70.
