Universal Pictures has snapped up the rights to develop a movie based on the hit video game BioShock. Gore Verbinski, the director of Pirates Of The Caribbean, will direct and produce the film.

Shoppers queuing up outside Virgin’s Oxford Street store to buy a PS3 at midnight were given a nice little surprise: a free 46in TV. At 11:40, Sony’s UK boss Ray Maguire addressed the waiting crowd and announced that they’d all be sent a brand new Sony Bravia W series TV worth around £2,000.

It seems that other consoles are wanting a bit of the virtual console action that Wii provides its gamers. Lo and Behold Xbox is getting in on the retro action with the release of Castelvania: Symphony of the Night. The game will be released today (Wednesday 21 March).

Anyone hoping to queue up for a PS3 at midnight on 23 March
will have to wait until daylight thanks to the Metropolitan Police.
Apparently PC Plod has told several shops on Oxford Street not to throw
open their doors for customers eager to get their hands on the latest
next gen console over fears they'll get mugged.

Sony has launched a website to let European gamers know exactly which PS2 games will play on the PlayStation 3 when it launches later this week. That will be good news to PlayStation 2 owners, following reports that 11 out of 12 popular titles tested on a European machine failed to work.
