Ritek crams 150GB onto an HD-DVD

While Toshiba announced at the CES in Las Vegas that it had developed an HD-DVD capable of holding 51GB of high-definition movies, photos and music, optical media vendor Ritek has claimed that it has produced a disc capable of holding 150GB of data.

Muslix64's YouTube videoA hacker claims to have cracked the AACS copy-protection system that safeguards both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. Muslix64 made the claims on the Doom9 forum and has uploaded a piece of software called BackupHDDVD to RapidShare.com for other users to try out.

Traxdata HD DVD-R first to hit UK shelves

Traxdata has launched the first recordable HD DVD disc into the UK market, with the discs going on sale in shops and online. Carrying up to 15GB, the discs will let PC users with a high-definition recordable drive backup their hours of video, albums full of photos, music collections, software and any other data.
