It might not have shifted a single unit in European shops yet, but one business analyst is claiming that the PS3 has already won the console war. Dublin based Research and Markets reckons Sony's late, undersupplied games box will sell more than the Xbox 360 and the Wii put together.
According to its report – titled "The Transforming Global Video Games Market: The Emergence of Next Generation Gaming" – the PlayStation 3 will shift 71 million units by 2010, with Microsoft flogging around 40 million Xbox 360 boxes and Nintendo's Wii coming third with around 31 million. That claim comes despite a sales report from the US that shows the Xbox 360 was the best-selling games console in the US during November and December. Market analyst NPD said preliminary figures showed the Xbox 360 sold almost two million consoles in North America, with the Wii running it close with 1.8 million sales. Sony's PS3 followed in third place with just 750,000 units flogged from its November 17 US launch date. |
