Review: Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Xbox 360)

Marvel Ultimate AllianceWhen a collection of supervillians threatens the Earth, Marvel’s greatest heroes join together to battle them. And so Marvel’s fuller catalogue of superheroes gets the same treatment as we have already seen in the two X-Men Legends console games.

Not that that’s any bad thing. Joining X-Men such as Wolverine and Storm are fan-favourite characters like the Fantastic Four, Blade, Ghost Rider, Elektra, Spidey… the list goes on. The gameplay hasn’t moved on much further but this is still addictive, engaging stuff.

Once again, where the play really shines is when you hook up with other Marvel addicts online and stomp the bad guys in a four-player team. It’s not all button-mashing, though, as the storyline in Marvel Ultimate Alliance is intriguing enough to stop you clicking through the cut scenes.

While this isn’t a huge leap forward from previous X-Men games, let’s face it, any game where The Thing can pick up Wolverine and toss him at the enemies is getting three mutant thumbs up.

Rating: 9/10
