IMdB data entry flawed? Print E-mail

IMdB logoAn odd one this. While sub-editing a review of Hunger - the Bobby Sands biopic - for Total Film. the writer mentions that it scooped the Golden Camera award for new directors at this year's Cannes Film Festival. But there's no mention of it on IMdB ... So I go to the primary source to fact check it and sure enough the Cannes 2008 official results page has director Steve McQueen winning for Hunger.

So I decide to do my first ever update on IMdB, cause frankly it's bad that data this important is missing.

The process seems easy enough. It even lets me post the link to the Cannes website. But a couple of days later:

"Award item rejected. Thank you for your submission to the IMDb. Unfortunately, we had to reject some of the data you submitted because it didn't conform to our guidelines. Details of the rejected data are included at the bottom of this mail."

Really, it didn't conform to IMdB guidelines? What do the IMdB team want, a written letter from the director. It goes on...

"General advice on how to submit awards data correctly can be found at: http://www.imdb.com/updates/guide/awards. Also, please note that the awards submission form is designed to cover all possible award events so it's likely that several fields should be left blank for your particular submission.  See: http://www.imdb.com/updates/guide/awards_form_glance"

The email also states that if I can correct the problems, I'm welcome to resubmit and it will be processed by the editors at "the earliest opportunity".

So, am I to take it the editors already looked at it, decided there's a problem with *the way* I submitted it rather than the information itself and snubbed the correction? Or is this an automated response?

Either way, it's a blimmin' pain in the arse. So, until someone else can be bothered to post an update properly, we'll simply hang onto our knowledge of Mr McQueen's awards win.
