A hacker claims to have cracked the AACS copy-protection system that safeguards both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. Muslix64 made the claims on the Doom9 forum and has uploaded a piece of software called BackupHDDVD to RapidShare.com for other users to try out.
A film posted on YouTube seems to show Muslix64 making a backup copy of Stanley Kubrik’s Full Metal Jacket on his PC. The YouTube film ends with the line “Stay tuned for source code in January.” Muslix64 claims to have found an encryption key for the HD DVD title, which he was then able to use to decrypt the video on his PC. |
